Telemetry Monitor Tech - Skill Set and Numbers

I work at a moderately sized community hospital and we have a 42 bed cardiac stepdown unit that runs 100% occupancy. We have one non-professional monitor tech watching 32 telemetry monitors. The hospital is going through a renovation project and the plan is to add 20 more telemetry beds. I think it is unsafe to expect the monitor tech to absorb the additional responsibility. Does anyone have a resource for safe parameters when observing monitors? Is there benchmark data out there? For example, one monitor tech to observe 20 monitors or one monitor tech to observe 40 monitors.
