A poem for all of you nightingales

"More To Life" by Angela Mac

She awakens at daybreak
does not take the time
to apply makeup and hairspray
vanity is superficial
more to life- there is at stake

She awakens the kids for school
taking time to make sure
they have matching outfits
and lunches have been prepared
more to life- there is to do

She awakens her rested spouse
time for a peck on the cheek
placing scissors in her pocket
draping a stethoscope around her neck
more to life- she exits the house

Awakened are the Nightingales
no time to chat over coffee
babes being born, surgery and care
comforting smiles and a gentle touch
more to life- in an angelic hail

Funny, I have just started wearing make up to work, because lately, people keep telling me how tired I look.

Here is a poem written by a friend of mine. Her name is Sammy.

What is a Nurse?

What is a nurse?
A nurse dispenses compassion with pills
A gentle touch along with enemas
A smile when the pain is great
And tears when it ends.

What is a nurse?
A nurse cries when a child is born
and when an old man dies.
She displays confidence
and quakes inside
afraid she does not have enough
knowledge to make a difference.

What is a nurse?
A nurse is called by God
to care for others.
Christmas spent caring for others
while her children open their
presents.

What is a nurse?
Late nights, early mornings
Sleep during daylight,
Work while the world sleeps,
Making the world a better place
One person at a time.

What is a nurse?
Overworked, underpaid,
Mediocre benefits, unappreciated.
Keeps on coming back for more.
A gift to the ill and weak.
She gets her satisfaction from within
From a job well done
From a smile given
From a simple thank you.

What is a nurse?
A nurse is caring.
For as the Bible says
What she does to others
She does as unto the Father.
A nurse is tired.
