Hi everyone, iam new here so i hope i've come to the right place.
I need information about paracentesis. We have no guide lines yet and we are having trouble finding any. I need to know if any one has a proceedure guide, as in how many litres can safely be drawn off at one time and over what period of time.

We plan to do this proceedure on a day care basis for terminaly ill patients as symptom relief.

I would appreciate any info any one has.

thanks Dee.

Are you a nurse??? And where is this, that you wouldn't have policies for an MD to perform this procedure?? Just curious here.

I did find this;

As above post.............who's going to do this procedure. I would understand the comfort issues in the terminally ill and what not but what the heck. I see you are from the UK but i don't think in the US the American College of Surgeons would think this would be a good idea. ARe you all looking for info as a nursing procedure?
