I want to be a nurse but I have (at the present time) 2 concerns:
1) Is it acceptable for a nurse or nursing student to be on anti depressant medication?

I am depressed due to a recent lifechanging divorce and relocation. Otherwise I have always been in good mental health. I know that once I am able to get back on my feet and into a career I will no longer be depressed. I just didn't know if this would keep me from getting to school since they do require a physical.

2) How common are accidental needle pricks? I am concerned about contracting HIV or Hep C.

Any help or suggestions you could give would be appreciated. Thanks!

Antidepressant meds are okay...don't worry about that.

The needlestick problem has been greatly reduced by equipment that
prevents pricks...needleless systems, etc.

Oh, man, at least around here, EVERY nursing student is on one antidepressant or another. And come to think of it, most of the nurses I know are too. Join the club. You're not alone.
