My interview questionnaire...

Can somebody help? Thank you!

1. If a physician gives you an order that you know to be against Hospital/Nursing Policy and Procedure, what should you do?

2. If you are feeling unwell prior to commencement of duty, what should you do?

3. Would you be prepared to float to another unit if help is required?

4. How would you manage a work situation in which you are required to work as a team member with another colleague with whom you had a professional and personal difference of opinion?

Re: My interview questionnaire...

1. If a physician gives you an order that you know to be against Hospital/Nursing Policy and Procedure, what should you do?

I would tell the doc that I am unable to implement that order because it is against hospital policy and is there an alternative that may be more inline with policy? If he/she insists, then I would defer to my charge nurse or administrator on call. I would not compromise patient safety or my license just because a physician "ordered" it.

2. If you are feeling unwell prior to commencement of duty, what should you do?

If I did not feel that I was well enough to complete my shift safely without exposing my co-workers or patients to my illness, I would call in with as much advance notice as possible to allow management to cover my shift.

3. Would you be prepared to float to another unit if help is required?

Generally no for me, because I have worked nowhere but ER for the past 15 years and would not feel that I would be able to provide effective and safe care in another area. Of course my situation is unique to me. If you feel comfortable, then say so.

4. How would you manage a work situation in which you are required to work as a team member with another colleague with whom you had a professional and personal difference of opinion?

I would have no problem with this unless I felt the person I was working with would put my patients safety at risk. Baring that, I can work with anyone I have to in order to do my job. We all have differences of opinion from time to time, that is just the way life goes.
