Mandatory Overtime

Hi all,

I am currently an RN in Pittsburgh, PA and I am going back to school to obtain my BSN. I am doing a report on the issue of Mandatory Overtime. Currently in my place of employment, we are not mandated to stay unless our relief does not show up and even then we usually go home after only an hour. So I was wondering if anyone out there is mandated to stay and what others thoughts are on this subject.

Thanks,
MKuhnRN

Re: Mandatory Overtime

I work in a state facility. I am a new nurse and I am almost 50. I do not want to work this hard. I am mandated to work an extra 8 hours and then come in the following day for my regular 8 hour shift. I just began working here and so I've been mandated once, about 2 weeks ago, and I'm next to be mandated. I got physically sick from not getting sleep. Where else can I work and pay into the state retirement system. I'm not looking to kill myself. Help!
