I am interested in what some of the House Supervisors role/responsibilities are in other hospitals. I work in a 225 bed facility, that averages 50-60% capacity. I currently work the 3-11 shift, but the night House Supervisor is wondering the same thing. What is the average pay scale? Are they required to attend meetings, and/or serve on hospital based committees? Just curious.

Oh...my I miss our house supervisors. At our hospital they got rid of nursing house supervisors.

Our house supervior would do rounds...if time allowed...and see how each unit was doing.

If we had a code...or concern regarding forms, hospital policies they'd be there. And they were so helpful. If you were very busy...with a code or declining patient...they'd talk to family and make sure everything was running well. If we had conflicts with patients/families...they'd help talk with family and patients.


I don't know about price scale or meetings... All I know is what an important asset we're missing...on the off shifts. You especially notice the loss on weekends...

I am a House Supervisor in a 200 bed hospital in NorthEastern Penna. I also work evening shift. We average 75%to90% occupancy with 26 critical care beds. We are required to be MSN prepared with ACLS,trauma, CPR, and field specilaties ie:CCRN, CEN,etc. In addition to rounds on 10 nursing units, we provide crisis management for familes/patients/staff. We are designated requestors for organ recovery and are acting hospital administration. We are required to participate on nursing committees and most have a 'pet' QI project. Since this is a teaching hospital we interact constantly with the house staff.(Residents) Salary range is based on years of experience, starting is in the low $20s to upper $30s.

I also am a House Supervisor and my duties are the same as JWalker's. We are required to have our ACLS, and oriented to all the units. When I am on, I do my best to make myself available to help out during the rough times. We also admit all patients who come through the ED so when they arrive to their floor, the nurses don't have all the paperwork to do and the patient can be get some well needed rest or treatments. When I work nights, I go to pharmacy to obtain the necessary meds for the patient who needs them and get equipment if needed from CDR.
As for my pay, I make 20% more per hour on supervision than I do when I work the floor.

I don't know entirely what your job entails, but here's a word to the rest: Make friends with these people at the hospital as it helps! LOL
