I was hoping for some impartial and honest advice. What do you think about using catheter stabilization devices such as those from StatLock? Do patients prefer and feel more comfortable having devices such as these as opposed to tape and suture? Does it make your job easier? Or do old habits die hard? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I like the Statlock device for peripheral IVs. I think they are more stable. I do prefer that PICCs are sutured. When I'm changing a PICC dressing with just the Statlock device I'm paranoid that it's going to move.

Thank you very much for your advice! I think there is a lot of discussion to had and most I have spoken to prefer the device. Any experiences with similar products such as Griplok or Hubguard?

I prefer the statlock to tape and sutures...easier to change, to rearrange the placement of the tubing and much easier to dc the PICC. I have never had a PICC get pulled out using a statlock except when the patient pulled it out!

I haven't used any products other than Statlock.

The patient with a PICC and Statlock was restless and vented and I had to sedate him and have someone hold his arm just to change the dressing. I'm sure the situation didn't help any

I love Stat locks. They work so good on peripheral IVs and CVCs. I like that they are sterile so you can feel good about putting it under a Tegaderm for an IV.

We use Stat-Locks for PIVs as well as PICCs. While I love them for PIVs and am satisfied with how they secure PICCs, I would feel more comfortable with PICCs being sutured, especially during dressing changes. However, I don't want to rely on sutures and tape to replace Stat-Locks. I just want as many layers of safety as possible for my patients.

Duct Tape...heals anything, holds everything.

All those "specific" type devices are great IMO. But in a pinch, nothing works better than some good ol' silk tape.
