Recently we had a young man in for a removal of a pin in his hand, which we placed for ORIF of metacarpal fratures. He had been diagnosed with scabies early that week and reported he completed the treatment with Lindane cream.

Considering we were working on the hand, we were concerned about spreading the mites. Of course, we used contact isolation procedures and cleaned the rooms well after the case.

How do you handle this types of infestations? Should we have cancelled his case?

We treat it like contact precautions, and have the room terminally cleaned afterwards.
