I'm interested in finding out more about nursing intervention for Meningococcal Disease & SARS.
I'd like to know more about treatment and approaches to these illnesses that nurses are expected to administer.
What are the standard nursing procedures for dealing with these illnesses? Are there any special extra nursing practices implemented? What is the advise regarding prevention of self infection?
Also, I'm trying to get some info on the incidence (ie total number of cases for any given year) of these two illnesses in South East Asia especially the Philippines. I've had a bit of trouble tracking this stuff down on the internet so I'd appreciate any links you may have come across or any comment you might be able to offer.

Treatment of Meningococcal disease will depend on the actual bug involved.
One major thing to take into account is that you will need an antibiotic that will cross the blood-brain barrier, usually Vancomycin or Amakacin will be used. But it is extremely important to get a culture with sensitivity first.

As to SARS, try looking thru some of the Chinese or Hong Kong Medical search engines, there are quite a few postings there. I was living in Bangkok at the time of the big SARS outbreak. You didn't hear much at all of their being a major problem with it in the Philippines as much as the more northern SE Asian countries. I would actually so a search of some of the major newspapers over there at the time and then go from there.

I would suggest that you go to the CDC web site for both Meningococcal as well as SARS information. Official site is: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
