Job Issues - You will not bring me down

This is to my old preceptor. YOU WILL NOT BRING ME DOWN!! I know you are trying your hardest and it is crystal clear to everyone, but it is not going to happen. I know you have the power you so dearly want when you are in charge and no matter what crazy assignment you come up with for me, I will still stick with it. I tried to be nice to you..say hi, ask how the family is, and even offer you help when I am done with my work, but oh no, you won't have that. There is no being nice back because that is the person you are. I am sorry for that. All the nice people decided to help me and I did make it, much to your dismay. I know I have to continue to work with you and I also know as I get better, I won't even have to ask for help during crazy times. Just wanted to let you know that nothing is going to breaka my stride, oh no. Thanks for listening.

I had one of those. And yes, most people came to my defense, and I am making it.

Good luck!

Damn right your going to make it!!!! With that attitude you're gonna rock as a nurse. So many give up, and it's so good to see someone who won't let their spirit be broke.

You're going to be just fine. Unfortunately, I would caution you to be on guard for the possible knife in your back from this charming bwitch.

You go!!!!

Seriously, that is a GREAT attitude. Stick with it because we need you!

As an aside, I attempted a tactic along the same lines. Worked for a while until one day, as my mama says, I had to USE MY WORDS ))))

and it felt good.......

Re: You will not bring me down

Why does your preceptor want to "bring you down"? I would think that your failure would be her failure.

Re: You will not bring me down

It could be your preceptor is a perfectionalist, and really just expects the best from you. Preceptors have different views on how to train new nurses, intimidation should not be one of them. Before i became the preceptor of my floor, we had one that was very intimidating and most orientees quit before their orientation was over. When she precepted me i had already been a nurse for 7 years and had worked at a few places and i think i intimidated her. She had only been a nurse for 3 years. When a nurse fails a task or does not quite own up to the expectations of what the unit expects a nurse to be, it does fall on the preceptor and their training. If you think you and your preceptor are clashing, maybe you need to talk with your manager and she can select another trainer for you.

See, this is the problem with the whole "eating their young" thing. No one should have to get to the point you describe, and I'm not remotely saying your old preceptor is right--but with that kind of fire in your belly, I have little doubt you are going to do just what you say and be one awesome nurse.

I'm glad you say there are some kind people around to help you do it.
