You know it is going to be the admission from hell when....
1) Pt arrives and hands you a 4 page typed document that lists medications on page 1, allergies on page 2, diseases on page 3, and surgeries on page 4....(and the pages were filled from top to bottom with info)
2) The family arrives en masse and they haven't bathed in a coon's age.....
3) The POA tells you that they want their 95 y/o relative who has lived the past 15 years in a nursing home to be a full code. Never mind that the patient has Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, paralyzed on one side, ejection fraction of 10%, and so on and so on....they still want everything done to "save" the patient.....
4) The patient who has had several anti-emetics in the ER is still projectile vomiting as they are rolled off the elevator.....
sjoe-we must be on the same wavelength...the first item I mentioned did happen to me, 10 minutes before the end of my shift this evening..... (Fortunately, one of my very kind co-workers came and did 90% of the admission for me, so I was only 5 minutes late getting out!!!
Here's another one: You know it's going to be the admission from hell when a pt. arrives on your floor reeking of ETOH and accompanied by a disheveled female companion who warns you that "he gets a little crazy once in a while".
When they arrive with full paramedic escort, on a cart, yelling and screaming "the baby's coming! Get it outta me!", all while handing you a 4 page Birth Plan, family who followed behind the ambulance instead of driving her, who turns out to be upon assessment.......
Thick/closed/high
Oh. And they're supposed to deliver at St. Mary's - across town.

Reminds me of a TRUE story....imagine scenario above.....the pt had refused to disrobe for the medics and was sent straight to L&D from ER.......IMAGINE the ER nurses surprise when the L&D nurse call to say that the pt is now being transferred to Pshyc cause she..........is......a..........HE!!!! .....now THAT's the admission from hell........ .......LR
