I am a Circulator at an Outpatient Surgery Center owner by christan surgeons. I am not be yelled, at cussed at, or pushed out the OR door by a crazy surgeon... as I was when working at a local hospital OR. Benifits are not very good but pay is 32.00 an hour for 8 hour weekday with no call. I like everyone there. I have had a job offer from Baylor to work in the main or for 3 -12's and one call day a week. I am a hour drive from that hospital. The benifits are great at Baylor... insurance alone would save me at least 300.00 a month. It would so much more stressful and I would be also working on holidays and weekends again. Hevean only knows how many difficult surgeons work there. So do I stay at the less stressful job and enjoy being treated with respect...... Or do I go for the more stressful Job with call, long distance, higher pay and great benifits. I do miss the big case ie PLIFS, Total hips/knees, a great trauma case..... It made me feel like I was needed. I would really like everyone to respond. Thank you.

You need to think about how much gas you will be using to commute to a job an hour a way. You could end up spending all your money on gas alone. Also, have you discussed the on-call issues since you live so far away? Most facilities require you to be to the facility within a certain time frame - most I have seen are within 30 minutes of the call. What will happen if traffic is really bad and it takes you longer than an hour? Trying to get around Dallas is a nightmare when traffic is heavy or there is a wreck.

At this stage of my life I would go for the less stressful environment where I was treated with respect. Yes money is important but my mental health is much more important. Good luck in making your decision!

I'd stay where I was treated right with a reasonable commute. Like has been mentioned, all of the extra driving might suck up a good bit of the extra money both in terms of gas and wear on your vehicle--not to mention time and aggravation.

I would stay where I am treated fair and with respect.
Money is not everything, and I value my sanity above all the money I could possibly make.

A good employer is a rare find in this profession, and I concur with the above posters who said you have to look at more than just the money. IF you can get by well as you are now, then stay where you are. If you really are ready to get back in and join us nutsy(overworked) hospital nurses then welcome back!

I think deep down you already know the answer. Money isn't everything, I would opt for respect & appreciation any day over money. If you truly miss the excitement of a large OR/big cases, maybe apply for per diem one wkend a month? Good luck.

If I were you, I would work one 12hr shift extra per diem to make up for the extra money and the experience. But I would definetely keep the the less stressful job.

I have a similar situation. I took a job one month ago. It doesnt have much to do with nursing (more supervisory) and I find it kind of boring. I have and offer at a hospital working on the neuro unit. I don't have much clinical experience and I'm not sure what to do.
