Would you join the Army Nurse Corps? Why or Why not?

Hey all,
Yes If you look at my profile I am a Nurse Recruiter for the Army. I am also an Army Nurse. I joined back in 1987 to get out of my home state and to see the world. I have done that, but I meander. Anyways I am now recruiting nurses and it is hard!!!!! I need a pulse of the feelings of the non-military nurses out there SO
The question is this:
If I offered would you join the Army Nurse Corps? Why or Why Not?

Re: Would you join the Army Nurse Corps? Why or Why not?

When I was 18 I came close to joining the Air Force to be a nurse....at that time the Army did not have the best reputation....it was so bad that my dad, a career soldier, did NOT want me in the Army.

The way it is now.......if I were young and single, I would probably take a good hard look at it.

Re: Would you join the Army Nurse Corps? Why or Why not?

I've pondered joining reserves MANY a time, but since I'm vegan I'd never make it on army chow and I can't do push ups to save my life (no matter how much I work out), so I'd never make it through boot camp.

Funny.... I didn't think recruiting was allowed on this forum.

I am already a Navy vet but yes, indeed I have considered going back to the reserves. My time to do so is running out. However, I now have family comittments that would not allow me to do so.

I enjoyed my enlisted time in the Navy very much - grew up a lot.

Re: Would you join the Army Nurse Corps? Why or Why not?

OP: Are you talking to any students that are interested? I personally have had trouble contacting a recruiter since I am not in my 4th and final semester. No one seems to be interested and the chat room recruiters on the Army website seem to confirm my suspicions.

Maybe you should get a group of interested students together to work out etc. so he/she can be in the process of joining and be surrounded by others whom are interested (positive supportive group of students who receive positive mentors)? As time goes on I am sure your recruiting will go up. Just some thoughts.

To answer your questions, the only thing preventing me from joining is family. I have little ones and my husband already active duty in a different branch and he may or may not leave when I am ready to go in. Otherwise, nothing is preventing me from joining the Army Nurse Corps (Reserves component) upon graduation!

I'm a student, and a male, and as a guy, I get this strange feeling I'll be accepted more by peers in a military setting than in a civilian setting. I really have no idea, it's just a crazy thought of mine....

Is this true? I'm not downing the civilian side by no means, but I guess with taking care of our soldiers, it isn't much of the politics seen in the regular hospital setting (?). All that matters is getting the job done, i guess.

The prospect of seeing the world interests me. Where all have you been personally? What are some benefits of the army nurse corps from your experience specifically? I just want you to kinda of brief me (no pun intended) because it's joining always been something in the back of my mind but never had enough information to make an informed decision.

Re: Would you join the Army Nurse Corps? Why or Why not?

I think part of why I wouldn't join is because you can make better money initially on the civilian side. I would probably join AF before Army. I am not sure I would want to RN the frontlines and have TONS of respect and pride for those who do.

hubby is active duty AF and I have a lot of pride for the US, if I could go in I would.

Not for all of the money in the world!! Reasons??
1) I am a military brat so I know the deal.
2) I like to make my own decisions on where I live... and don't try to say I can 'cuz I know better.
3) I don't like the rank structure... how I would have to be respectful of all my superior officers just because they out rank me.. sometimes people are jerks and I don't like keeping my mouth shut.
4) I want to be able to quit my job the day or week I want to.. not fulfill a contract.
5) I don't want to go to a war torn country.. yes I am scared.
On the other hand, I think the military is great for some people.. people have many good reasons to join. My dad loved the Navy with all of his heart and stayed in for 30, would have stay'ed for 40 if they'd have let him.
I am just not cut out for it... at all!!
