Worried - Would this work??

Would this plan work in order to become an RN?

I am a high school senior. After graduating high school, I would go to my local community college for 2 years to take pre-reqs. Then I would want to go to nursing school. Would they accept me if I get good gpa in community college?

thanks ahead of time!

First all I would like to commend you have a plan even before finishing shcool. I do not see why it would not work out for you. You may even be able to use some of the classes you are taking in school to help you out i.e chemistry, Algebra and forieng lanuage if it is needed. Good luck. I would talk to a counselor at the CC to get more info.

This is a great plan, we need you! However, be diligent in what nursing school you want to attend. Many schools have waiting lists that can offset your plans for a year or more sometimes, so apply as soon as possible! Good luck!

I think it sounds like a good plan. Some colleges have a plan for students that are seniors in high school to take some of their pre reqs while still in high school and get on the waiting list a little earlier. You would have to check with the counsler though to find out if there are programs like this around where you live. Good luck.

Re: Would this work??

One of my 18-year-old daughters (I have three of them!) is planning on becoming a nurse. She will be attending the community college this fall and getting some classes completed before applying to the community college's nursing school for fall of 2009. For instance, her first semester she will be taking College Writing, Psychology I, and Anatomy & Physiology I...oh and something else, I forget which but it will be 13 credits this fall. The community college gives preference to nursing school applicants who already have obtained credits through the college so she will be working hard to maintain a good GPA.

She also wants to apply to some of the other nursing schools in the area such as the hospital-affiliated schools, just in case.

So I think your plan is a good one! Maintain a good GPA and get that stuff out of the way and nursing school will move so much smoother for you!

Re: Would this work??

Yep...a lot of CC's have RN programs...so if you get the pre-reqs done, apply early....never know, they might not let you in one year, so you can get more pre reqs done before you get in. Talk to a admissions counselor, but know that you NEED to talk to the one who deals with the RN program....not every counselor is the same.

Yes they would accept you!! I took my prereqs at a technical college and then was able to get into a great school! Just try to get A's in all your sciences. That will really help. Good luck!
