Would this be appropriate for me to ask? This is always awkward for me...

by kaeky

I graduated school this past summer and have been working for seven months now. I am applying to grad school in the fall for 2009. my senior year of college I thought I was going to grad school right away and had two of my third year instructors write me a letter of rec each for a certain university. However, now i have decided to apply to one other school that requires 3 letters of rec. Is it ok to go back to my instructors and ask them to write an additional letter now that i'm this far out of school? what is the proper procedure, I feel bad because they already wrote me one my senior year (which i will still use). Also, I need a third letter, is it too soon to ask my manager for a letter? I am at seven months but haven't had my 6 month eval yet. I work nights so I hardly even get to see her, but i'm running out of options for letters and i really want to go to school.

Absolutely. I got three letters of rec from my instructors/advisors etc when I was about 7 months out and moved to Georgia. I also like to send a lot update emails, so that they always know where I am at and how I am doing. I also include a letter of rec from a manager and/or fellow co-worker when I apply. That way they get a little of the past, and a little of the present!

Best of luck!!

I don't see why it wouldn't be ok! I graduated in 2005 and have gotten letters of recommendations from three professors before, and will ask them again this fall when I apply to nursing school. I made sure to get to know some of my favorite professors very well and worked with a couple of them as a student volunteer. In turn, they are more than happy to write me letters of recommendation. I'm sure your professors will gladly do the same for you!
