Re: Why is nursing considered a sexy career?

Um, I dont know who really thinks nursing is sexy. Any career with women in it, anyone might think of as sexy just because a woman is in it. Men being in nursing isnt considered sexy. Wiping someones cdiff backside isnt sexy to me.........or anyone I know.

Nursing is SO sexy, because there is nothing like bathing an 87 year old set of male genitalia to get a girl "in the mood"

As I always tell patients "If I see anything I haven't seen before I'll shoot at it!!"

Re: Why is nursing considered a sexy career?

I think nurses are considered sexy because:
-nothing much phases them.
-they deal with people up close and personal.
-their focus is entirely the other person.
-they know how the body works.
-they are generally nurturing people, nice people.

What's not sexy about that?
It's a stereotype but I prefer that to the mean old matron or the grumpy short tempered nurse stereotype, anyday.

In my vintage nursing books, there was a lot of controversy about female nurses putting catheters in male patients or doing personal care on men. Often male orderlies were hired to perform these functions.
When Florence Nightingale took her first group of nurses to Crimea, she faced this "sexy" issue. It is no accident that the nurses she chose were older women and nuns.
When I started out as a Nurse Aide years ago, Men were the only ones to perfom "male" catheters and so on, unless we did not have one. Same way with beds and females were to take care of females. Man have times changed for the BETTER!

Re: Why is nursing considered a sexy career?

Yep....just like tapping a keg somedays.....
Seriously, I believe that as nurses, we have the choice on what our image is....I provide a caring service and professionally make sure my patients are doing as well as functionally possible when I'm on duty.
Of course, as your bathing the 100 yo women and they say "I wish I could take you home...you're so gentle...." Yep....gives the old ego a boost.
Plus, what was it Right said fred said? "I'm too sexy for my scrubs, too sexy for my scrubs, a rub a dub dub!" (wait, that's not how the song goes? whoops.)

My husband has confessed to me that when we were dating he loved to tell his friends he was dating a "busty, redhead nurse". They were all so jealous. :P
