I'm in the midst of being transferred intrasystem to a new position at a different facility owned by the hospital system I currently work for. At my initial interview I was made alot of verbal promises about shift, weekend commitment and was told that this facility would be able to pay me more than I am currently making. I have since informed my current NM of the transfer and requested release from my current position (per system policy)which he is willing to do.

I informed the HR recruiter (at the new facility) about this almost 2 weeks ago without any response from her (after 2 additional voicemails and an email) until today. She left a message on my machine to call her so we can talk about starting dates. Now . . as far as I know I have not been made a formal offer yet?? I have no clue what they are willing to pay me and have nothing in writing about shift and weekend commitment.

I have been reading other threads about nurses job hunting challenges and suggestions from others to "skip" the dealings with the HR or recruiters and deal directly with the nurse manager instead.

So, what do you think . . .

Should I call the HR recruiter back with questions about a job offer? Or . .

Should I call the NM and explain that HR is wanting to talk to me about start dates but I'm confused because a formal offer has not been given to me yet?

Who decides what a newly hired nurse will be offered?? The HR recruiters or the NM??

The nurse mgr usually makes those kind of decisions.

One question that begs to be answered is why did you already make arragements for the transfer if you had no formal offer?

Hospital policy is that an employee interview for potential new position first, request an intrasystem transfer, once paperwork for transfer is finalized, then the formal offer is presented.

My gripe is that I have done everything on my end to initiate the transfer process and never heard back from the new facility HR regarding the status of the transfer. I assume the paperwork is completed based on the fact that HR left me a message regarding "setting up a start date" for the job (though a formal offer hasn't been given).

The HR at this facility has been pretty sloppy and so I'm wondering if I should just go to the NM to arrange/negotiate details of the position and then work with HR regarding start date etc.

Oh, sorry I can't help. The one time I made a system transfer, I had the offer before the arragements were made. That way if you didn't get the offer then you didn't have the situation of having to tell you current NM, "Oops sorry."

I just applied for the job and they contacted me about an interview. i did have to let my NM know that I was going for the interview, but nothing about the transfer was arranged until I got the formal offer. Then the HR departmant of the new facility arrange to move over my seniority ,benefits, etc for me.

I was fortunate to be able to scope out a new job at an RN open house! Had an interview with the HR rep, clinical coordinator and NM all on the same day. Once I expressed interest though, I had to fill out the request for transfer form and begin the transfer process (and inform my NM).

Actually, if I had been working in my current position one year (and/or not been a new grad) I could have gone through the transfer process without having to get a "release" from my job from the NM. The paperwork would have been completed and an offer given. Once accepted, then the NM would have been informed. But because I'm a new grad with less than one year at this position, things had to be done kind of backward, the other facility had to make sure I would be able to be released from my current job first.

Check the policy and procedure for intrasystem transfers at your system. More than likely if you have been at your current job for 6 months or more (and not a new grad) then you can interview for another position within the system, go through the transfer process, and get/receive an offer before having to inform the NM at your current job.

BTW . . just an update. .

I'm still waiting for a formal offer from the new facility! I did speak to the HR recruiter and there are a couple of details that still need to be ironed out as I transfer facilities. She explained that I will receive a formal offer but that it won't be made until all the "i's" are dotted and "t's" are crossed so to speak, regarding every detail of the transfer. So, I guess I have to wait a little longer to get an offer. I guess I could turn it down if I don't like it, but I'm not anticipating that . . considering that it's a straight day position with limited weekends and promise to pay more than I now make.
