Okay I have failed the nclex and I need to work?? I am from new york city and I feel like I am between a rock and a hard place!!!! I have a bsn is there anythving I can do with it in the process of studying??

first make preparations to study and retake the test, many people do fail, sometimes several times
go to a hospital and see if there are any jobs that could be handled by someone with your qualifications, maybe ward clerk, cna,

I would not recommend CNA. Too hard for you to keep within the CNA scope of practice. Something without that much patient contact would be better. secretary, admin asst, admissions, etc. If you don't have to work, concentrate on studying instead.

I tend to agree. After having taken an entire BSN program, it would be difficult to work as a CNA and not wish to overstep your bounds (and naturally so, because in your mind, you are already a nurse). Now, if you are able to be a CNA working in a private home, I would do that, because you can care for your patient, have great observation skills, give great care and study on the side again for your exam; if, you don't get a desk job somewhere.

well, you can't do much with a BSN without the RN , but you can be a ward clerk , that would be great for you , you could keep a foot in medicine and learn. i am sure you will pass boards next time, keep studying and my prayers are with you...

While I understand the inherent difficulties of working a position so much more limited in scope, I don't see why it's considered SUCH a problem. Nursing students often work as NAs, right up until they graduate (and sometimes for a few months after while waiting to take boards or before they land or start a new grad position.) If a senior nursing student two months from graduation can handle functioning as a NA and not overstep the bounds of their job description, why would it that much more difficult for someone immediately post-graduation who hasn't even worked a full-fledged nurse yet?

That's where the problem lies....I graduated four years ago.....post graduation I worked in a hospital for a few months but eventually I had to take the test..I did and failed so I took off a few moths with no work to study....I took it and failed, the next year I worked as a human resource clerk in a law firm and studied and took it and failed then I got a lpn permit so I can jus work and get my feet wet ...and I did for an entire year and I loved it but it was always a yearning for the rn so I took it again and failed it so now what do I do......cna or na I agree I would overstept my boundaries and just feel less than bc I know what I've done and what I am capable of....maybe a clinic .... Maybe working in a home.....idk....help me out yall!!!!!!!!!!

this information puts a new light on your situation. can you consult with an advisor from the school you graduated from?? maybe you need to redo the last year of nursing school to familiarize yourself again and also gain confidence. i can see why you are discouraged and you shouldn't give up, but i think you need some additional support. good luck, i wish you the best.

i will pray for you tonight. i am so sorry to hear this. today i took my nclex and i feel like i failed. everyone around me is positive but i hope i didnt let them all down good luck to you!

I took the NCLEX last week and passed taking the minimum of 75 questions. I studied from the Kaplan prep book and also used the enclosed CD that had additional NCLEX-type questions with rationals. I took notes on all the questions I got wrong and REALLY focused on understanding WHY I got the question wrong. Kaplan book teaches you to eliminate wrong answers FIRST when strategizing multiple choice questions. Then with last two possible correct choices you would consider ABCs or Maslow in choosing correct answer. I also swapped addional CDs with friends, like Saunders, which was really helpful. Some of my friends took review courses after graduation, but I chose to study this way instead, and it worked for me. I studied when I had time throughout two months and declined on several party invitations, but it's a short price to pay for success. Hope this helps. I'm sure you'll pass next time. Keep the faith.
