Where can I find statistics related to the nursing shortage?

I was looking for useful statistics about the nursing shortage... particularly I was looking for a state-by-state breakdown of average nurse-to-patient ratios in various healthcare settings (or whatever was available).

But, I'm interested in all kinds of facts... the size of the present shortage, duration of time, projected rate of worsening, etc.

I tried searching the ANA site (and this forum) to no avail.

If anyone knows a good place to find the info I'm looking for I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks!

Peter Beurhaus, a nurse educator, has done alot of research on the subject of the nursing shortage, and other research pertaining to the effects of short staffing on patient outcomes.

If you search the older threads here, you should find alot of threads with links to these articles. You could also to Google the subject, and you should comes up with alot of articles. Hope that helps.
