Re: What you get for nurses week

Our hosptial has a week long celebration--includes large cool-hot bags with mug for gift day, 2 days for days and nights of grilled chicken breast sandwiches and all of the trimmings--with games and competitions of all sorts--and the traditional blessing of the hands, competitions with prizes for decorated doors and poster projects that can help the hospital and community with nice prizes, a golof tourney and to top it off--this year, we received a bonus check--(not usually typical--but the rest is). We also have an awards and recognition formal dinner for milestone anniversaries for length worked at the hospital

Re: What you get for nurses week

I got fired during nurses week. I was only there for 2 weeks and consider it a blessing. Right after that meeting I went straight to another hospital I use to work and ran into a nurse I use to work with who told me what a great nurse I was and how I should come back to work there. She had no idea I just got fired and was told I wasn't a good nurse by a nurse manager who was using me as a scapegoat. Long story and not worth getting into. Learned from it, moving on, while understanding the punishment did not fit the crime. Ive been in nursing long enough to know and take responsibility for my mistakes but would never treat a fellow nurse the way I was treated that day.

God is sovereign and orders our steps if we put our trust in Him and do the right thing. I think I may be getting a better job at a better facility by next week! And that's a great gift for nurses week!

Re: What you get for nurses week

Thanks for your note! I know that administrators have to do something and some do nothing, but if we can treat each other with respect and appreciation all the better. those wo accept and appreciate feel good and those who don't... well some live in pessimism and have learned those behaviors or are unhappy not just about work or recognition. My opiniopn and observations. I work with some of the poorwest and under served people and communities, who are so appreciative of any gesture of kindness and resepct. It means more to me than anything these days. I find other rewards in life. I teach this to my adopted and foster children. I have one child.. well she is 18 who hs little care and appreciation. She is not me biologically and I can expect nothing from her because she has harbored anger and resentment for the last 17 years. I put myslef in the place of other peopel first bdofe judging or concluding when I really don;t know them.
I oncew asked a patient "do you live like a pig at home and wallow in your grief?" I then did a follow up visit since I am a case manager and found she was nothing like the person ( by way she was our hospital's ADON) we hd as a patinet nor was she the stoic unapproachable person we knew as an ADON. Life is a journey in progress.

Re: What you get for nurses week

At our place, it is tradition that the department that has the recognition week puts on a potluck for the rest of the place (We're a small rural hospital, very family-like). The nurses put on a great spread for everyone. Last fall, the OR crew threw a potluck that was nicer than my wedding reception! All the departments take their turn, though, not just nursing. People bring in an extra containers and pack it up for the night shift too. Basically, the employees recognize EACH OTHER. That's what I like best at my place, we value each other. Although the nurses also got a $20 gift certificate to a uniform shop, which was nice too.

Re: What you get for nurses week

Nurses got a hot pink keychain thingy that says, "We're compassionate and we care!" With the hospital logo (I'm a male nurse, so I'll proudly be sporting that pink thing).

Meanwhile, the physical therapists got pizza for "medical professionals" week.

Isn't nice to feel a part of a small "family-like" facility? Kudos to all of you for taking the time to do something nice for each other!

That would be okay if your hospital advertising color was pink.

As for the PTs and pizza, as a nurse, you can treat their heartburn, lol!

Guess my husband's saying should be a comfort "Expect nothing and and you won't be disappointed."
