What supplements do you take for nutrition to get through the day?

I feel so much better when I take my vitamins. Do you? What do you take?

In a nutshell, I take:

Mulitple vitamin and mineral QD
1200 mg Calcium with 500 mg of magnesium
120 to 600 mg (the later for driving a long trip) of gingo biboli
400 i.u. of Vit. E
500 to 1500 mg. Vit C (the later for feeling the need for extra protection)
Green Tea with Echinacea if I am feeling run down or want added protection
An estrogen vitamin replacement PRN called Estrotimes (it works fabulously for those flash moments)

I used to see an Acupuncturist regularly but have not in over 6 monthes due to unavailibility of having one. He would give me additional herbs. Honestly, I seem to be doing just fine without them.

I now refuse to work nights; Working nights was @#$% on my body and mental health. I work frequently but when I am off I rest a lot and drink lots of fluids. Trying to eat mostly veggies and low sweets (I struggle with a chocoholic tendancy when I want/have to be naughty).

Any ideas on weight loss suplements?

I would love to hear how you take care of your health! Please make comments!

Happy, prosperous, and safe New Year to you ALL!

In peace,

B.

Cool my supplements that get me through the day

A pack of Marlboro Lights in the box, two pots of high-test Hills Bros, and a chaser of antidepressant and antihypertensive.

I'm NEVER irritable, have energy galore, and the world is coming up roses every single day!!

Sorry, nightengale........I couldn't resist. I'm the worst possible example of "health conscious" there could ever be. Shame on me, shame on me, shame on me!

Lately, been working all of the time (it seems). Extra shifts whenever possible at my main hospital, and a few extra shifts at another smaller hospital in my town (have one child in college, another about to graduate from high school, and I am the breadwinner).
What has honestly made a BIG difference (in my personal experience) have been the following supplements (some of them a bit expen$ive). I have had good stamina and immune system has been very strong (rarely sick):
BeeAlive Royal Jelly--have been a lot more energetic since taking it
OmegaBrite (omega 3 oil capsules)--mind is sharper
MVI
Co-enzyme Q-10
Esther C
vitamin E
beta carotene
acidophilus
calcium-magnesium
L-carnitine
vitamin B-12
various herbal "estrogen replacement"-types (haven't found the
perfect one yet, but they help). Also use a natural progesterone
replacement cream.

WriteStuff... oopps typo.. Quote should have read... "If it works don't fix it!"

Healing touch: Thank for writing such details! I would highly recommend Estrotime by YouthQuest for estrogen mimiking replacement. The only shop I have found it in is Great Earth. They do also have a website. I just take it PRN.

In peace,

B.

I just eat CHOCOLATE...

Hi to all, My New Year's resolution is to eat less chocolate and more fruits and veggies. I seldom get a break at work and so I tend to "grab" what I can. In LTC, many of the families bring in goodies for the staff and I am trying not to eat my weight in chocolate and cookies. I limit my diet pepsi intake to one can per day. I am trying to drink more water, less coffee.

I do work out at a health club three times a week. And I try to do things that make me happy! The health club wanted me to be weighed and measured each month, but it did not make me happy, so I refused and just go to work out. If I can zip up my jeans okay, I am happy! I don't take any meds, but for an anti-anxiety pill PRN.

It is interesting to hear what vitamins/herbs others take and if I need to try something, I will know who to ask. Thanks!

I take OTC prenatal vitamins every day.

My hair seems to grow faster and is shinier. Also my nails are stronger.

Could just be all in my head. But at least I get my folic acid.

ENSURE, a great supplement, or a multi-vitamin with minerals. I never drink the ensure and take a vitamin on the same day(double dose vit/min.) Ensure comes in great tasting flavors, i like butter pecan. Fruit/veggie blender juices are good too.

I'm allergic to milk, so I take Cacium every day, as well as including "sea vegetables", leafy greens, tahini/sesame seeds to my diet every day.

I also take a multivitamin, B-vitamin complex, and vit. C. Might switch to PNV after reading Suzy K's message.

I also eat ocean going fish, loads of organic veges, grains, and beans, and avoid red meat and poultry unless it is free range. I sound granola, and you can laugh, but I am really not.

I keep trying to improve my diet to get the nutrients out of food, since I believe your body absorbs the vitamins and minerals better. Until I am self-disciplined enough to do this, I'll continue with the supplements. Pay now or pay later.

I bought a treadmill and try to walk 4-5 times a week. I can't guarantee getting to a gym or exercising out of the house since I have little kids and a busy hubby.

nightngale: I thought you were a night shifter!

I love nights for the work (no white coats), but abhor what they do to my body. I avoid them at all costs. It screws up my circadian rhythms and I get head colds, migraines, etc. I read a study where night shifters have higher rates of cancer.
