Re: What Shoes? to wear?

Here's the link to a recent thread regarding the "best shoes ever" for nurses http://allnurses.com/forums/f8/best-...er-175170.html

Alot of opinions in this thread, but Croc's win hands down. However, I prefer New Balance walking shoes (as recommended to me by an orthopedic, foot/ankle specialist).

It was also interesting to see in this thread that croc's are banned at some facilities because of incidents of ankle twisting and tripping. I worked with an older nurse last week who was wearing crocs, said she loved the way the felt on her feet . . and then explained that she recently tripped and fell in them because the toe tends to get caught when walking too fast.

Check out the thread . . .and good luck in shoe selection . . .it's important!

Re: What Shoes? to wear?

Like Neet said, there's usually a thread running on one of the boards here on this same subject. Ask ten nurses/students, get ten opinions

Frankly, it doesn't matter what anyone else finds comfortable, or "wouldn't go to work without" on their feet. What's comfortable for YOUR feet is what matters, and polling others doesn't seem to bring you any closer to that decision, IMHO.

I found the best, most comfortable shoes ever on my local Wal-Mart shelf for $18; I had "upgraded" from the $10 variety <grin>. I tried a recommended, pricey pair at the uniform shop and they felt awkward, definitely not worth the bucks to me. It's all a personal choice, so try some on!

I love the Dansko's - they are expensive but they are the most comfortable shoes ever.

Re: What Shoes? to wear?

Crocs aren't allowed in my facility because of the holes on top which would be a bad thing if any vile body fluids or substances happen to spill onto your feet.

Re: What Shoes? to wear?

By far, the best shoes I've found are Merrill's. I work 13 to 14 hour shifts and these help my feet last the entire time. I have really high arches, so a lot of shoes are extremely uncomfortable (including Crocs). The other pair of shoes I wear are Dansko's. Expensive, yes, but can be found on E-bay for a little bit less. Merrill's aren't terribly expensive and they are definitely worth it. I suggest going to a local store to try them on and find your size, and then order them off the internet...sometimes cheaper. Happy walking!!

I don't like Crocs. The heel is too low for my shortened Achilles tendon. My faves are Cherokee Rockers Lights. and- you can remove the insoles, and throw the shoes in the washing machine, with bleach.
