A nurse in Berlin, Germany who admitted responsibility & will be disciplined for

TAPING A PACIFIER TO A BABY'S MOUTH WITH BANDAID

Seems the 4-day-old boy constant crying drove her to distraction.
His shocked parents were the ones to discover this uncalled for action.

Talk about giving nurses a bad name.

I once saw pacifiers taped to a baby's mouth in a NICU that I worked in once through the registry. The charge nurse explained that was the only way to keep the pacifier in the baby's mouth. So it does happen, and even is sanctioned in some strange places--like a Los Angeles hospital!!! None of the nurses there seemed to have a problem with it.

More than one person has been fired at our facility for doing just that over the years.

So unsafe. Thank goodness there are alternatives- we can get very creative with the props and such to try to keep it near the baby's mouth (tongue depressors and such). ChildMed Ventures also makes the cutest little beanie-baby type toys with a paci attached (sewn securely) to prop against the baby, and we've recently gotten those and love them.

I'm a new grad RN,
my son is 3 years old, born at home, but when my son was born my mom told me to tape one to his mouth, of course we BOTH knew she was joking.
WOW, this is truely amazing.
my son never took a pacifier anyways.
I cannot honestly believe that this nurse did this, maybe in other countries they do it different, but not that different.
