Re: What's your story? Why did you become a nurse?

well mine is dramatic... im an engineering graduate and work for 5 years in a manufacturing company, my husband's siblings encouraged me to pursue nursing since it is a promising career abroad. for the sake of my 2 y/o daughter's future i resigned from my job and ended up enrolling in BSN in 2001 finished the course in 2004, work in a local hospital for a year and now (with 2 more daughters) enroll in a masters degree in nursing...(while waiting for a job abroad). but i love this career, i have no regrets!

Re: What's your story? Why did you become a nurse?

I was born with a cleft lip and palate. Through the years I had minor surgeries. Finally when I was 18 I had a major repair. It was then that I thought nursing might be for me. My mom was a nurse too, so she kinda encouraged me.

Hi Everybody,
I am talkative by nature and want to know about people who is in my field.

I read all stries, Everyone have some strong reason for becoming a Nurse but i don't have any serious reason for that.

I came from INDIA 24th Des 2006 so this country is new for me. I want to become proude to my parents and my law's family. I had completed my Bachelor in Micribiology major [3 years] from India + 1 year MLT [ Medical laboratory technician course ] from India in 2006. I came here last 24th Dec and now I will start my new career from Jan 3rd 2008. I never do job. I choose nursing for many reasons............... 1st of all I would like to help needed people, secondly I want to fullfill my parents dream to become something in my life,
Thirdly I love my husband and want to help him financially, Moreover I love to know about the greatest creature of GOD ''Human body system''+ I love to meet new peaple and talk with them + I am on H4 visa so I want it to tranfer to H1B visa + This field is quite similar with my study and dreams + It's easy to get job in nursing and last but not least the salary range.

I am so excited to start my careere that I open my collage catalog twice a day. The most bouring thing about nursing is the pre-requisite courses. I gave Math placement test and got high marks so I transfer to MA206 Elementary statistics. Now I try to get high marks in ESL placement test so that I can save my husbands money.

I have many reasons to become a nurse. This is my boured story.
Bythe way thank you for your time
Movie is not finished yet,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,where are you going?

I need a help to find a chesp book for all these courses so please if you have any site in your mind............help me.

Re: What's your story? Why did you become a nurse?

Why nursing......that was the decision i made in 1993....I was then deciding what i really want in my life...Direction??????my mum wanted to be a nurse but she never realli did and i ask her why she like to be a nurse...."uniform nice" simply....the reason for me to become a nurse is that I wanted to be independent ......cos nursing has sponsorship and i do not need to be a parasite to my parent who are not well to do...and also i can make impact to someone life ......i do believe I did.....during my 11 yrs during my career....now as a nursing lecturer i believe i am still touching and impacting those lives out there............................................. ...........

Cool Re: What's your story? Why did you become a nurse?

This is my first post so here goes. The reason I became a nurse is a interesting story. I first thought of becoming a nurse when I was in my teens, however, life had other plans for me. I became a teen mom and wife so that, for me, took priority. I have now been married (to the same guy) for twenty plus years and we now have four children and two grandchildren.
About ten years later my husband and I started driving semi-truck as a team. During this time I was injured on the job. I was pinned under fifteen hundred pounds of cargo, what the doctors referred to as a pancake injury. Needless to say after back surgery, knee surgery and a brain injury, to three sections of my brain, I was in need of some R&R (not the alcohol). It took several years to recover from all my injuries. The most extensive recovery was the brain injury, but, after one year of cognitive rehabilitation I regained 21 IQ points (before 131, after107, now 128) not bad I'd say. Anyway that's the short version of my long tale.
During my recovery period I had some wonderful nursing care and it made me rethink my goals in life. So, I went to the local community college and applied for admission. It took me four years to reach my goal but, I am now an RN w/ my ADN, working on my BSN .
The really good thing about all of this is that I LOVE what I do and I have inspired two of my daughters to enter into the nursing field. My oldest just completed the ADN program from the same college I graduated from.
Well that's how I got from there to here.

Re: What's your story? Why did you become a nurse?

Why I became a nurse.....

Here it goes when I was 18 I had been accepted to a 4 yr university into thier new Dental hygeine program....but I had a boyfriend who kept telling me he could not believe I would go to college and leave him...well then I too ended up being a teenage mom and wife...so for 5 yrs I put all my educational plans on hold...

My father had begged me to go to nursing school told me he would pay but I told him i did not want to be a nurse like my Mom and Sister....

I started college at the community college when my daughter started preschool...I tried computers...did not like it...tried business...did not like it...tried accounting...hated it...by this time I was working in a local hospital as a Unit Clerk and alot of my friends were finishing up nursing school...so I changed my major and got my AD in 1994..so 13 yrs later..I just finished my 1st semester for my BSN..

Thinking I may get my Masters and teach...but ilove Nursing and Love Helping People!!!

Please be as detailed or as short as you wish. It'll be interesting to hear everyone's stories.
Ok...I'm ashamed to admit it, but I initially went into nsg.school because I was madly in "love" with a gorgeous Italian med. student. Our plan was to graduate college and travel the world saving people. Yeah, it's goofy! What do you want?! We were 20 yrs. old and full of dreams and hormones!! It turned out I did the right thing for the wrong reasons....never have regretted it either.

Re: What's your story? Why did you become a nurse?

Brain, This is my first time posting as a new member for 90 min. So, here it goes. My father told my older sister and my twin-sister and I that we were going to be nurses when we were 10 years old. He said we would always have a job in-case our spouse died or was unable to provide for the family. My father was a product of the depression and welfare was humiliating. I was fortunate to see my mother care for and nurse my grandmother back to health from a stroke. She instinctively knew what to do- rehab nursing in the home in 1969. All three of us became RN's an have had continued good health and satisfaction in our career's. My father was wise, very wise. I thought I wanted to dig up artifacts in Egypt, but that would have gotten boring digging in the sand. With nursing there is never a dull moment and always something new to learn.
