What's the correct answer to this interview question?

Just wondering what people think is a good way to answer this question:

What would you do if you observed a fellow employee not following procedure?

Also... What are some other situational questions asked in an interview and good answers?

I have my first interview tomorrow and I am freaking out a little!

Correct the employee. Its that easy. If you see him/her break sterile procedure for instance, tell them (preferably before they contaminate the patient).
If it is a safety issue or something big...correct the employee (to protect the patient) and report to NM.

I would say for the situation regarding procedure that I would first speak to the employee, stating the proper procedure without sounding superior - just stating the facts. If I continue seeing the same employee not following procedure and it places the pt in harm then I would go up the chain of command.

One question that stumped me was "describe a time when you went out of your way for a patient". I guess I think of the times I've went out of my way for a pt small - running a stat order that our lab cannot perform to another hospital hours away. Hey, I got out of working and I got paid for it! The other times it's been running to the store to buy magazines/books/snacks/etc for a pt who is out of town and has no one close by to get those things for them. I consider going out of my way part of the job.

Another question I've been asked: describe a time that you were proud of yourself.

I have problems with this line of questioning because I was raised not to brag and to not shout it that you've done something good.

Good luck!

Thanks for the input everyone. The interview went well but, unfortunately, he never asked this question. We'll see how well it actually went when I get the phone call next week!

I agree the answer is to teach/help them. I would never say report to the nurse manger. You should try each level before moving up the chain.
