What is the highest temperature you've had a patient at?

by nesher

I'm curious - I recently had a patient hit 106.6 - it was the highest I've seen in my long career...what have you seen?

The highest i've seen was with my 3yr old daughter. 105.5 for 2 days before she was admitted for kidney infection.

Adults don't usually get as high body temps as children but I had an older man dying of too many things to list whose temp was 106, he died soon after I took that temp (DNR).

107.7F on a young female post-op abdominal surgery patient. The tympanic and oral thermometers agreed, and I was ! I couldn't get her to ICU fast enough (I'm NOT a critical care nurse), and after an I&D of an abscess, and a different antibx, she was FINE!

107.1 Tympanic in an adult seizure patient who seized for 20+ minutes in the ER, who knows how long at home. Took forever to get a line into her, she was clamped down everywhere. Finally stuck an EJ in while she was seizing. Lots and lots of valium and she stopped.

She seemes to have done allright after, we have seen her a couple of times since for seizures.

Highest in a peds was 106.5, little girl who really gets fevers when she is sick.

My kid had a 105.5 temp last week!! Of course it was the middle of the night after working my 3-11!
In LTC we freak with anything over 103. The slightest elevation in temp in the elderly is enough.

109 in Neuro Critical Care Unit on a massive brain bleed patient who was attempting a celestial transfer. The family finally conceded to the transfer.
