I'm working myself up to buying a new pair of work shoes. Where I work it seems like there is definately no directives as to shoes worn. I see many different shoes in all colors and styles. I've always worn white, but I'm thinking of getting either black or dark green. I was reading these shoe threads and getting some ideas as to brands to try.

With all the colored scrubs I wear, I think non-white shoes would go better. Also, they wouldn't show scuff marks. I keep my shoes at work and never wear them home, but the white still doesn't look so great. I was thinking that black would look professional and go better with my outfits. What do you think?

I have never owned a pair of white nursing shoes and I probably never will .... I prefer black.

Thank goodness my school had a relaxed policy when it came to nursing uniforms.

Except when I was in nursing school and white shoes were required I have never worn them. I pick my shoes out for fit and comfort. I figure I am on my feet 8-12 hours a day so I want them to be as comfortable as possible.

I wear oiled black, and I love them! They don't show splashes, scuffs, dirt or anything else.

I wouldn't wear white again under any circumstances. I was so happy to get out of that dreaded all-white uniform from school!

I *really* want a pair of red patent leather dankos. I'm having a hard time finding them though! darnit!

Black is the way to go!!! Hated white shoes!!!!
For those who say you can't see what's on them-don't want to know-can't see microbes either!! Never wear them out of hospital anyway.

I would die to wear black shoes. They are more practical, and as others stated, no scuff marks. We are stuck wearing white and I hate them.

I definately think the whole white shoes, white uniform is dated, and im sure no one is going to yell at you for not having white shoes. I had white shoes in school because they made us and we would get written up if we didnt. After I graduated, I threw them out and got normal running shoes. As long as you look clean and professional it doesnt matter what kind of shoe you have.

I still have my white Danskos from nursing school but I rarely wear them. I prefer my black Danskos or navy Birkis.

I love my Ecco shoes I just bought...the mary jane "water shoe" type. They have adjustable straps across the back and over the top so you can make them loose if your feet swell.
They're great and come in different colors.
