Vent!!! TMD/TMJ

I am SO upset!!! I have TMD and my dentist (who specializes in orofacial pain) recommended I get a splint to help with the grinding at night (I grind REALLY bad @ night). The splint in $950.

The frustrating part? MY medical insurance refuses to pay for it b/c they say its a "dental problem" and my dental insurance refuses to pay for it b/c its a "medical problem". !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Meanwhile, pts with TMD/TMJ have to pay for everything out of their own pocket and get bounced back and forth.

WHAT IS THE POINT OF HAVING INSURANCE IF NOTHING GETS COVERED !?!?!?!

*Stepping off box now*

I feel your pain. I have had I don't know how many of the "mouth guards" specially made at my dentist in the past. Due to new crowns being constantly remade (I go thru crowns like every five to seven years, it seems!) I have to have it remade to fit right again. Always has been out of pocket for me, too. I agree about the insurance scam. Apparently my dental insurance wouldn't pick up the cost, either. It's a shame the way the government doesn't step up and make them more accountable for their inactions on the behave of the few folks who still can manage to hang on financially to pay that monthly premium, even with partial pay by our employers we still get the shaft. Sad state of affairs in the land of the well insured, I say.

If each is claiming that it's the other's responsibility to cover, get a letter from each and send it to the other's appeals dept. Never know, it might work.
