For us "big" girl nurses.....

hi...this question may be kind of odd...but for the past year and a half i have gained 42lbs...any nurses out there wear girdles under your scrubs to look a bit smaller?...i have noticed that wearing scrubs really made me gain some weight...i believe too the added stress and my eating habits that i am working on to change...i was curious to find out...b/c i am considering wearing a girdle under scrubs to control my "extra" baggage...lol...i can't believe im actually asking this but there is a co-worker of mine who does this and she has said that it actually has controlled her "eating"... and feels better wearing one...and has lost weight...any input would be greatly appreciated ladies!!...btw...work days and evenings...XoXo

I used to, when I first switched from scrubs to dresses... I wasn't used to having my thighs on display like that! They are -very- warm, but also give some back support.

Too hot for me! I make my own scrubs so that I can control the fit. There is no way to hide my size but making clothing to fit my personal shape helps emphasize the good and minimize the bad.

I find it very easy to stay away from the goodies. At work, I am there to work and not to eat except for my lunch. I can see where a girdle could help decrease eating because it would get tighter if you eat a bunch, like a good fitting pair of jeans does. Getting off the night shift also helped. Everywhere I have been, nights tends to eat more than any other shift.

I gained 40 lbs during nursing school. I was hoping when I went to work it would start coming off but so far not a pound! Never thought about a girdle but if it works I may have to give it a try.

If I thought wearing girdle would make me look smaller, I would be there, believe me. However, where does the fat go??? It's gotta go somewhere - lol.

Thumbs up Re: For us "big" girl nurses.....
I gained 17 lbs in nursing school, then slowly lost it after joining Weight Watchers. I've had a weight problem my whole life and even succumbed to an eating disorder (which, sadly, worked really well...) for a period of time. Ironically, I weight 10 lbs more than I did while I was bulimic, but I am far healthier now than I've ever been in my entire life.

I know your reason for this posting was not weight loss advice, but I had a "big" girl comment to me about my WW mug the other day. "Figures it'd be a thing girl." I said, "NO WAY, I lost 25 lbs with the help of WW!" And it wasn't a quick fix either!

In any case... Good luck!

I recommend Spanx as well. I wear them when I'm wearing jeans to keep my muffin top tucked in. I don't know about wearing them with scrubs though. I like to let it all hang out every once in a while.
