update from me & no tour?

Hi all,

I was the one from a few weeks ago who lost her first job as a new grad form L and D, with the bad orientation. I had an interview today for a med-surg floor, and I feel pretty optimistic about it. They are hiring three nurses right now, and seemed pretty positive about me.
One thing bugs me though, they did not give me a tour of the unit after my interview, even though I thought it went well. They told me lots of things about how great it is there, and how nice and welcoming the team is, and gave me the whole benefits package speech and salary info, but no tour. Do you guys think that's a bad sign?
They were pretty supportive about the experience I had previously, so I don't feel like I'm really hiding anything, which makes me feel good.
I'm off celexa now, so that confused cloud is gone, but now I'm flat and unhappy again. I'm hoping it's just nerves waiting for this job, here in the state I live in, you can't see a psychiatrist for 6 weeks because the mental health system is so weak and overloaded. The only alternative is the ER which I'm not too excited about.
I have really enjoyed communicating on these forums. I really appreciate your responses!
Lisa

Perhaps it's an oversight. You could ask for a tour. They probably figured you've seen med/surg floors before and will see it all on orientation.
Be well and good luck!

I hope you get the job! You will learn A LOT working in med/surg. It's a very challenging area to work in because you see so many different scenarios with tons of different diagnoses. Let us know how it goes.

As for the tour of the unit.............contact the nurse manager and ask to job shadow for a few hours on the unit. This way you will get a firsthand view of what you have to look forward to if you are one of the three hired. If she won't give you a tour, go visit the unit when she isn't there....late evening before visiting hours are over...and see how the floor is functioning then. I've done this a few times, and it paid off for me. Sometimes I chose NOT to accept a job based on what I witnessed as a "visitor" to the unit.
