What type of Degree do you need to qualify for a unit manager?
Any ideas of what the yearly salary would be?

Depends on where you live and the hospital. Many hospitals around the country employ ADNs for Unit Managers. The salary is also dependent on where you live. Differing parts of the country pay higher salaries than others. Here the managers, must have a BSN and make 30something an hour. I worked in a large teaching hospital and they asked all their unit managers to have MSNs.
Bottom line - it varies, but the common title is "Registered Nurse".

Depends on the area you are and the specialty within .... I have a BSN....others in my hospital do not.....This regional does not have a high percentage of BSN's so you see more associate nurses in manager roles here....like I said...it depends...I also make less than some of my nurses....but they have been here 15 + years..I have only been at this hospital 3 years....

My nurse manager has been in her role for a little over 3yrs, has an ADN, and makes about 55,00 a year

Most hospitals are leaning towards BSN when the right person is available for hire. Again, depends on situation, but in my area a unit manager will earnabout $60,000/year to start.
