What do you all think of current nursing wear. it kills me to go up to a adult floor and see RN's wearing all these crazy looking tops with cartoons and teddy bears on them. personally i see why some of the public looks down to a nurse and is always wanting the DR. We look terrible. I think all floors should have set colors for each positon. RN's, LVN's, PCA's, it gives a sense of order. just wanted to know how others see it, because i just was looking at a web site for nursing uniforms, and i couldn't help but laugh at some of them.

i agree. pictures on your uniform on an adult floor is childish. i'm not sure about the whole standard uniform color for each profession like some hospitals do. but i would definately agree with solid color only uniforms on adult floors.

I mostly agree with you. I have only one printed uniform top it has little nurses on it with the phrase Got to love a nurse. I seldom where it. Oh yes I have an older one that I wore on the peds floor with smiley faces on it.

Our required uniform, when I started where I am now, was a print (solid colors for men). They have changed it to whatever you want, basically (I think because so many agency nurses were being used it really didn't matter). Personally, I would prefer one color(s) for each profession - the little cutesy prints remind me of when I was pregnant and tried to find adult maternity clothes. It seemed that the manufacturers thought that if you became pregnant, you also reverted to infancy. Hated it then, hate the cutesy prints now....

Yep the range of uniforms in the US was starting to get out of hand when i left in 99.. I see its just gotten over the top.
Here in the UK... each hospital/trust has its own uniform. They are provided for each nurse.. Nurses uniforms are differant colours than the auxillaries(nursing assistants).. So we only have to buy our shoes/socks/tights(pantyhose).... Some hospitals even have a laundry that will wash your uniforms.. I always take mine home to wash as i've had too many uniforms dissapear or get ruined in the hospital laundry..

This topic has been discussed a lot here, but I'm not sure I ever commented. I also don't care for the cutesy, cartoonish (except on a peds. unit) or "loud" prints out there. I always wear white pants and my scrub tops generally have subtle pastel prints-- I feel like it's more "calming" for patients. (I also wear pastel colors in real life. When I get uniform catalogues, I shudder at some of the wild prints they come out with.) I sometimes think it'd be better for nurses to go back to all white since you can't tell us from the Unit Clerks, PCT's, or housekeeping.

I disagree. Drab colors are drab.

I like all the cutsey colorful kinds of uniforms (though I tend to stick to the drab). I think it adds personality and an upbeat feeling to the unit and the nurse wearing it.

I think in the publics eye nursing is still an honorable and trustworthy profession. It's attitude more than anything that ruins our "image" in the public's eye (not that I agree it's ruined).

I totally agree with you! When I worked OB, I got dreadfully tired of always wearing the same uniform. I don't care if they were paid for or they washed them.

I love the variety of uniforms available today. It allows us to express our individuality and uniqueness. I've gotten very positive comments on my uniforms from patients. They've told me everything from that I've brightened their day to they accurately reflect my personality.

Besides, I really don't like the name of my hospital across my rear. It's wide enough to notice without having people reading it. My hinder is not an ad.

Plus, the thought of wearing someone elses pants just gives me the eebie jeebies. I don't care how many times they were washed. Ick.

I don't mind most of the uiniforms, as long as they are neat, not wrinkled and stained.

Long uncontained hair, excessively long fingernails , and too much jewelry makes me cringe.
