awww!! what a sweetie! I used to work for a doctor who was absoluley adorable too. he had great bedside manner, and was a very gifted physician. he was married with 2 lovely little girls. i would give my right arm to trade spots with his wife!!!

He would be more like a mentor that I value and appreciate professionally! Someone I can say "gee thanks for the compliment and help!". Which I may add is sorely needed around this country between MD's and Nurses as I read daily!

Then he led me into the room and did the dressing telling me all sorts of interesting complications of amputations and what besides the typical things we look for to keep an eye out for. During that...a fountain of blood came out of her foot as he pressed and sure enough...necrotic bone! He was shocked and said "wow, didn't see that until now! Thanks sweety, if you hadn't asked...this would have been a shock in surgery!".

She was leaving for surgery when I left...and the doc gave me a hug. "really..thank you for asking me about the dressing...some nurses may have been to scared to ask...but thanks to you and your interest and wanting to do things right for my pt....we found out something very important!".

I felt so good!!!!!!! He has always been there with a cheery face at any question I have...even if I think it is beyond dumb! Man...wish that all MD's and nurses were like that!!!!!!!

What a blessing and the really cool thing about it also is what great care patients receive when there is a genuine kindness and respect for those we work with! I was lucky enough to work for an awesome doc/surgeon who treated us girls in the office and the patients like we were the most cherished and important person ever. He was so good but never was flirt or misleading...a few patients who were very needy always wanted to take advantage and attempt to manipulate him and yet he still continued to treat them just as good and always gave them their dignity

I've been hugged by docs and nurses and techs and others I work with and there was no hint of hitting on someone. Some people are just more physically affectionate than others.

I agree with cyberkat, I am a student, but I am a hugger by nature. I have been hugged and hugged many people without it being a 'romantic' thing. In fact, any time I run into any of the cops I used to work with, we never leave without giving a hug. And I ALWAYS hug our division of wildlife manager, he is just awesome - my hubby thinks he's pretty cool too.

I am so happy that there are some awesome docs out there! I have always been on the patient side of a doctor and have had great docs, but I am intimidated by them as the idea of being the nurse. It is good to know that they aren't all out to 'get you' as many threads say. I hope I can have the good fortune to run into docs like this on my journey through nursing school and after.
