I am sooo sad to say that I had to drop all of my classes for the summer today. Classes just started yesterday and I am already out. My babysitter decided at the last minute that she was not going to watch my children. Instead of her being woman enough to tell me, she decides to keep quiet and avoid my phone calls. I am not mad at the fact that she changed her mind, but that she did not tell me what her decision was. I cried until I could not see. This meant so much to me and I feel like crap. Well, talk to you all when I cheer up!!!!

I'm so sorry! Have you explored every option? Are there any child care centers nearby? Can you patch together temporary childcare?

No I cannot. I have registered for the fall and now I am taking 18 credit hours. Not going this summer would have put me behind a semester where I wanted to be. I just decided to take the extra classes I reg. for this summer. I did however find out that the state will pay for my daughter's childcare who is 15 months old. My son will be starting kindergarden this fall so I guess it will work out. I am still sobbing over this.

That said, your babysitter shouldn't have pulled that stunt.

I have one bit of advice: Have the very best and most enjoyable summer possible!! There will be plenty of time for school and work and just think of this as a really nice break. I completely understand the challenges of childcare. My husband deployed to Iraq a couple of years ago,with a few days notice, and I had to take an emergency leave-of-absence because I just didn't have the childcare. Just enjoy your kids and your time off!

Take advantage of the extra time with your kids and gear up for the fall. Next babysitter you have make it clear that you expect reasonable notice if s/he decides not to babysit after all. And do not give this last twit a good reference if she has the nerve to ask for one!!

Wow, that is too bad. I'm sorry you don't have any options for childcare. Do you have night classes you can take? I know sometimes it is easier to find childcare in the evenings. I took all my pre-reqs and nursing classes at night and weekends just because childcare is such a complication to students!! i then used my husband when he was around (he travels quite a bit), my parents and some teens that live in our area.

Sometimes you get faced with unpleasant and unplanned situations (or so we think they are). This may be someone trying to tell you that it's time to take a small break and focus on your family at the moment. School will be there in a few months. Love on that family of yours and take a break from studying for just a bit of sanity!

I have some very unplanned problems (tubal pregnancy) happen with me last month, right in finals week too (with AP2, Micro, Stats & Health Skills) - not a good week to be in the hospital. I was so depressed, angry and didnt understand, but I am feeling better now. I feel there was a reason I went through that. A hidden health concern was discovered (Level IV endometriosis), that if not, would have probably led to complete infertilty for me in the future. The disease was discovered and I was put on Depo Provera to preserve the one fallopian tube left after surgery.

Different situations, but I am starting to realize...there is a bigger plan out there, and even if we don't understand, have faith to know it will be for the good!

Sorry to hear what you are going through. You'll get through this so hang in there. On the up side having the state pay for child care is a good thing. It is going to cost me a small fortune.
