Just and FYI... MIL is mother in law. Military people use a lot of slang and jargon. LOL I've come to find this out....

actually it has nothing to do with military, it's shortened on message boards such as this...for instance...DH = Dear Husband, DS= son, DD= daughter, MIL =mother in law, SIL = sis in law, ect. it just helps keep messages short and simple to read.

Lord have mercy- yes I know that as well- LOL I was just stating with Brian [my bf] being in the military- I bought a Guide for "military wives" so to speak and it had a bunch of jargon in the back of the book that I pretty much memorized -so I would know what he was talking about. That is all I was saying. Just like SO- Significant Other. PT- Physical Training- etc etc... LOL That is all.
Thanks
~Audrey

When my son (Navy) starts throwing too much military jargon at me I start replying in medicalese. Pretty quickly he realizes what he was doing and reverts back to (fairly)standard English.

Thank you, thank you , thank you to some of the staff members who have attempted to keep this thread ON TOPIC. If this "war" in Iraq IS about bringing freedom to the Iraqis (and NOT about oil) since they were once under a virtual dictatorship, why aren't we doing that in, oh, a dozen African countries under (pseudo) dictatorships? Oh, that's right, Zimbabwe isn't know to have oil reserves. Having served in the Peace Corps in West Africa, I'm a little more knowledgeable about the "Dark Continent's" woes. Just something to think about. Nonetheless, I fully support the men and women who are in Iraq. Remember, they signed up for it.

What is really funny if you have the 'bad judgment' (not my belief!!!) to actually serve in the Peace Corps, you would be banned from gaining a security clearance in the military and banned from many jobs effectively shutting you out.

Wouldn't think humanitarian service would be a problem for a military that is supposedly being used to spread democracy and freedom around the world.

It's also funny how people have to throw in the 'I support the troops' disclaimer when criticizing the war or the monsters will jump them. Hmmm.... Some freedom....

Re: Rumor of a six month 200K RN position in Iraq????

earle58, I will not dwell on the political side of this thread. The reality is that ALL individuals living in this world deserve the same freedom(s) that we, as Americans, have. If, as our President has stated, we are in Iraq, etc. as an attempt to provide freedom to oppressed individuals, then why don't we have a strong military presence in a variety of other countries like, for example, Zimbabwe? While I support our troops, they DID make a decision to join the Army, etc. and, as a result, they are OBLIGATED to serve. Period.

Now, if they were offering $200K per year to work as a nurse, I would definitely consider working there. When I was a Peace Corps volunteer, my mother pleaded for me not to go. At that time (and now), I maintained that SOMEONE has to help those most in need. If not me, then WHO?

I would be on the first jet if they paid 200k 85% tax free. Of course I would never go outside and would work in a flak jacket but hey, it's a small sacrifice. Besides, if you live to come back it will have been worth it. If you die well hey, then it doesn't really matter.
