A dear friend of mine is also an RN. She has been posing as a nude model since she was 19. I know many people don't agree with this, but it's never seemed like a big deal until now. Could she lose her license if someone were to come across her pictures? I'm worried for her.

Her licensure would not be in question, but her employment status would be. Many employers who deal with the public, like hospitals, have a problem with this because of the image it portrays to that public.

Think about it this way: the nursing profession already has a hard time with public image because ignoramuses see us as sexy Nancy Nurses who do nothing but pamper men. People like your friend do not help.

My license requirements include: Maintain good moral character. Now, I *personally* don't think that what your friend does violates this clause (although I agree with Tazzi about how it doesn't make our jobs any easier), but if your BON thinks it does, then yes, she could lose her license, in theory. I think they put that requirement in there so they could pull your license whenever they want.

There was a special on HBO a few years ago, it must have been about nursing, and this one nursing student said she was working as a hooker. I wonder what happened with her, if she made it through nursing school after admitting that on HBO. They used her face and name. Though maybe as long as she paid the tuition they didn't care, who knows?

I am not a judgemental person by nature, so, from a personal standpoint, I would not really raise an eyebrow at your friend if she posed in the nude. I think that if she is a knowledgable and competent nurse, that is the person I would want for me to care for myself and my loved ones.

I can see how a facility may feel differently, though, and that can be unfortunate, because many people have skeletons in their own closets. Also, if this is the case, what about teachers? How would a parent feel if their school aged child's teacher was a swinger or took porn pictures? Again, I do think that many know how to separate their private lives from their professions, know that consenting adults are essential, but there are others who may not believe so, and try to crucify people.

I hope that your friend starts wearing a disguse...mainly for her sake.

I worked in a large ER where two RNs were strippers on the weekend. Since it was a Catholic hospital, when it was discovered they were both given a choice and both chose to leave the hospital. One of the things you signed to work there was that you would maintain the standards of the hospital.

funny, because when I think of passions I think of hobbies (e.g., collecting things, playing sports, etc.) or expressing/appreciating artistic talents (e.g., singing, dancing, painting, sculpting) but I guess one could have a passion for posing nekkid...esp. if cash is involved; after all, certain conditions of the human body can be a very beautiful thing. I know I would if I had any kind of body that any human other than my wife could bare witness to without initiat an case of mass intractible emesis.

Hmmm, I do not see it as that big of a deal. Where do we draw the lifestyle line so to speak, before the lifestyle police drag you away from nursing? I have a good friends who swing, others who are homosexual, and others who are bisexual. Do we call the lifestyle police on them too? Provided the activities are not illegal, I think it would be very hard for any BON to yank somebody's license.

Look at all of the nurses on diversion programs of some type. I know nurses with more DWI's than years of nursing experience, and they still have a license.

However, from what I know of the activity in question, exposure to violence, alcohol,and exotic substances is a problem. So, the risk of getting into trouble may be higher.

EDIT: It looks like the OP was talking about modeling and not exotic dancing as I had originally understood. I still see no conflict with her nursing and modeling activities.

that is what i was thinking as well,.....the other i wouldnt consider modeling, lol
