Hi Iam 59 y/o and recently retired from office ob/gyn nursing the past 16 years. I don't like not working but what do I do now? help!

Many of our volunteers are retired nurses. Maybe you could feed the babies or help out in many other ways as a Hospital Volunteer.

The volunteer idea is a good one if you want the maximum flexibility and don't mind "working" for free. I know people who have done that and been quite happy.

Another possibility is very part time employment. My sister is a public school teacher and retired at the age of 52. She substitutes to earn a little extra cash and to keep herself connected to her profession. Because she only does it for 2 or 3 days per month -- and only when it is convenient for her -- it's not a burden for her and gives her plenty of time to play golf, travel, etc. She also teachers 1-2 courses per year at a local college. The extra cash pays for a few luxeries she would not be able to afford otherwise. Perhaps you can find an agency ... or perhaps your former employer would appreciate occassional help.

My hopes for retirement (I am now 51) are to "semi-retire" in another 8-10 years -- but to ease into it by working part time teaching a course or two at a local university. I just have to be sure I have access to health insurance until medicare kicks in.

if you don't - maybe you would like to achieve one and then teach
