Hello. I was wondering if anyone had any information on California interim permits... I am currently an LVN attending school for my RN. I will be done in June of 2009. I am currently working and would like to begin working at my current facility as an RN as soon as possible. If anyone has any information on this; guidelines, how to apply, etc., please let me know! Interim permits? They let students practice as an RN without an RN license? Never heard of that before.

i've never heard that either... you have to graduate from RN school to work as a graduate nurse to get a interm permit...then you take boards for your RN and you interm permit ends when you take boards,

maybe in calif they provide this... someone from there may be able to help you

In CA, after a certain amount of time in nursing school, a student can challenge the LVN exam and then work as an LVN until becoming an RN

the way i read the op she is currently a lvn and is going to school for rn, she was asking about the procedure of switching from lvn status to rn in same facility
it would seem to me that she could talk with hr and see if she can be hired as an rn on passing test

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you'll have to wait until after you graduate to be able to work as an RN. The Interim Permit is issued only after completion of the RN program (or in your case LVN to RN), and is good only until you take the NCLEX and pass, at which time you get your RN license, or if you fail, the Interim Permit is null and void. I recently completed the LVN-RN bridge and had the IP until I sat for the boards (which thankfully I passed!). You will not be able to work as an RN until after you graduate--I know how it can seem like forever away, but hang in there--it will be over before you know it!!
