THE QUESTION US STUDENTS REALLY WANT TO KNOW?? Starting Salary and What State.

When going into any profession, you always want to know what is the starting Salary. Please inform us curious nursing students with the following:

1. Starting Salary
2. Location (state)
3. Dept. or position.

Thanks Everybody.

Yeah, you really need to go to salary.com, but that's not always accurate either. In California, salaries vary quite a bit just within a 15 to 30 minute drive. A lot of it depends on the cost living in different areas, population, etc.

Are you talking LPN or RN?
As an LPN in Tennessee, my salary after 4 yrs. in a LTC facility is $14.50/hr.
An RN I know from there is making $21.50/hr. (but she said she really had to wheel and deal with them to get that salary).
The hospital pay for LPNs here is a joke ($10.56/hr, not sure what RNs are making). Not only that but there are very few hospital positions left for LPNs in the hospitals here anymore. They have grandfathered in the LPNs who were already working there but have said they will not take any more (I don't know why they don't just eliminate LPNs if that is not what the hospitals want anymore.)

Yeah it does vary quite a bit. I'm a new grad working as an RN now in California. The money is really good out here, but cost of living is probably higher than in other states.

However, in the part of calif I live...I get paid well, but cost of living is less here than the Bay area or LA area. I was able to recently purchase a home for $330,000!! Obviously I am financing this, but I make enough money to even qualify for this amount of a loan (I just graduated in May!).
Good luck finding out more info on this

Is that cheap for a house out there? That is incredible.
What do you call a good salary out there? You must make $50 or $60/hr...$330,000 would buy a 3,000 Sq foot mansion in most parts of the country.

I've been an LPN for 19 years and have a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and I've pushed that when negotiating wage/salary. Here in Oregon LPNs earn $15-19/hr in long-term care facilities, state agencies and the like...more often around $17/hr (though I know on doctor's clinic wanted to pay only around $10-12/hr! ). I have RN friends who are earning $25-27/hr. in doctor's offices/dialysis companies.
