someone told me i'd have to take another program for nurse midwive after i'm done with my RN college classes? if so, is it just a program? or is it more college classes that i'll have to take? i'm clueless! so many things for me to learn..ERRRR! by the way, ob-gyn gets paid a lot and has somewhat the same objectives as nurse midwive right? but the only thing is that ob-gyns gives c-sections if needed? i'm confused about these two careers objectives. i read their job overview on iseek.org, but it still doesn't make sense to me. help please! and if they're both the same, which one should i go into? ob-gyn or nurse midwive? -Choua

OB/Gynies are MD's and can intervene if medically necessary with treatments, surgeries, etc. Midwives, to my understanding, deliver only problem-free pregnancies and you have to work under an MD's license. There is some extensive further training, just like any other nurse who goes on to specialize like in anesthesia, nurse prectiioner, etc.

Although Midwives and OB/GYNs both care for women in their childbearing years, their philosophies and approaches are very different. Certified Nurse Midwives are moving more toward, if not already requiring, a Master's Degree. Good Luck.

cnm's have their own license. states differ in their requirements re: collaborative physician.

You'll definately have to take more classes after you gain your RN. If you at planning on taking the nursing program at the school you're currently at (talked to you before we go to the same school ) You'll have to take a RN to BSN bridge (Metropolitan State, UofMN, NAU, Argosy, etc offer these). From there you would have to apply and get into a Nurse Midwife program. The only school in MN that offers this is UofMN.

Yeah, I've kind of researched this a little as I've considered this route as well.
