June 14, 2003.........our tiny little town of 700 was horrified to find that a man that we had taken into our community, helped him find a home and a job had turned on us in the worst way!!! He spent the evening at one of our local saloons, drank wayyyy too much, tried to pick up on "unavailable" ladies less than half his age, got into a "confrontation" with one of the husbands and was told to "go home..you've had enough"! This man did not go home....instead, he went to his truck, got out his 9mm, retreived an extra clip from the jockey box and waited for the bar to close!! At the end of his "rampage", 6 of our finest young folk lay wounded, dying and dead in the street!! The dead was one of my hubby's best friends...25 years old, father of a beautiful 2 year old daughter!! The others were very critical and were flown out from our facility to 3 trauma centers!! Miraculously, the 5 critical are still with us...but not without the emotional wounds that may never heal!!!
The community at Virginia Tech will find that "life does INDEED go on...but.....".....the emotional scars will be with all for quite some time and with some FOREVER!!! My heart, prayers and tears are with them!! I can only imagine the fear and anxiety of the thousands of parents with children there who spent HOURS (which drag on and feel like forever) desperately trying to locate their children!!
