You have to pay at all the city hospitals but the small community ones have free parking.

We pay but we can have it deducted and put as "salary sacrifice" which means that the tax man pays eventually. Our problem is that the hospital car park is right on top of a bus stop and it is cheaper for people to park there and ride the bus to the city than park in the city - and guess what - the hospital doesn't care. Mind you they do try to save some parks for afternoon staff - but.......

It's free where I work- we are provided with employee lots. You can pay $20 a month to park in the garage, of which I don't nor plan to do. It's more than a 5 minute walk though, but i figure i am getting my exercise in. This however only applies to day shift. 3-11 and night shift do have closer parking lots and they can park in the garage for free. I'm not complaining. I think its ridiculous to pay those outrageous prices and I'm sorry for everyone that has to do that.

It's annoying. Practically extortion since there is nowhere around to parf for free (unless you want to move your car every hour) and the bus service around where I work stinks.

I used to have to pay $50 a month, now it's more like $20 at my present job.

"We Will Get Exactly as Much Crap as We Take"

As Sjoe (thanks for the title) points out, another place where nursing unions could make a difference (not to mention better lighting/security/etc in those parking garages).

Folks, there is a shortage of both nurses and CRNA's. The difference is that CRNA's have figured out how to negotiate, both individually and in groups. Generally, as a CRNA, if the hospital wants me bad enough, I get to park for free. If not, they don't want me bad enough and there are 5000 other hospitals waiting in line to "seduce" me. It's amazing what good, hard nosed negotiation skills in a market that is critically short of nurses will do for you.

Man, I just keep getting happier and happier about going on with school.

A $5.00 weekly fee automatically deducted from our pay for staff parking. Hospital parking is free in the wee hr of the morn. - no one patrols the boom gates at this time.

the real ****** is like, it's not even covered. It's just like a field we part in. So we had this huge snowfall lastnight. And they didn't even plow the freaken parking lot! I helped 2 cars get unstuck this morning by pushing them out!

If our (free) parking lot is full we get a pass signed by the local PD so we can park in the parking lot of the business next door!

parking

The nurses here have to pay as well, but they've worked it out.
They all meet at the local Tim Horton's and drive to work together. When they get to the parking lot, the first in line grabs the ticket from the machine and when the gate goes up, they all follow each other so close that the gate has no chance to go down, and voila, 6 cars packed with 4 nurses a piece get in for the price of one!

That is perfect. Now that's teamwork!
