Out Patient Nurse

Hiii every one
im a deploma nurse, with only 6 months of experience in outpatient clinics.
I feel that im lossing all what i have learned in college. but im increasing my skills in paper works, entering MDs orders in the computer, taking vital signs and moving patients in-out of the clinic.

Do you think this is ZERO real nursing experience

really i want to learn more and more about diseases, nursing diagnoses, interventions ...etc but i miss the motivation.

who have any advise, pls help

I cant offer you much advice, but I am sort of in the same boat as you. I just started about a month ago, and already wondering if I made the right choice to work at a clinic straight out of a school. I too wonder if my skills are going to waste? YOu have been there for 6 months now, if you are happy and fulfilled there then you should stay. If not, try something different....hospital? or ltc? Good luck!

Re: Out Patient Nurse

After I graduated with ADN in 1996 I stayed at the LTC facility I had worked as a CNA and LPN. Many of my fellow students felt they needed to go to the hospital to "gain experience". The experiences I've had while working LTC are more than satisfying to me. But I was older when I got done with school - 35, and hospital work just did not appeal to me. No matter where you go, if you are willing to learn and keep your eyes open, there are things to learn and experiences to be had.

Re: Out Patient Nurse

I worked at a hospital as a nurse intern and gained some valuble experience. However, once I graduated I went straight to work in an outpatient mental health clinic. I wouldn't trade it for the world!! Anyways, as much as nurses are in need now you'll be able to find a job anywhere anytime you want. Just trust God.
