I am curious. I have been a nurse for 4 months now, and I know of a couple of other options to staff nursing in a hospital. I'm wondering what other options are there?

I know about home health, hospice, school nursing, travel nursing, and physician office nursing. what else is there? and what options are there for newbies like myself?

I'm asking because I am really starting to wonder what other options I may have, or am I stuck in this place forever? I am having a bit of a time adjusting to staff nursing, though my peers seem to think I'm doing fine. I know every newbie goes thru what I am going thru, so that is why I am asking.

I love being a nurse, I am just not sure I want to do it in the hospital setting.

you are never 'stuck'

there are many many jobs which only a rn can fill dialysis, or, teaching new generation nurses, the list goes on and on

choose something that you enjoy going to everyday

I can throw out a few odder ones LOL!

Camp nursing was a blast for me, and very autonomous!

Occupational nursing in certain companies that have them (some companies have a nurse on staff during business hours to handle high risk injuries, drug screens, immunization and tiders...).

Drug reps hire nurses to talk about their products.

Triage Nursing in various areas, including insurance.

Working in insurance companies handling disputes or coverage for certain things.

Forensic nursing!

Nursing Law and being a special witness for certain cases.

And I have known some nurses that have started up companies after burn out or retirement for nursing type items like a store for scrubs, nursing recruiting and agencies, taking in a elderly patient at home to care for them, and even...Vet!

Dude, go to the specialty nursing forums. You'll find lots and lots of options. I never knew there was such a thing as hyperbaric nursing.
