My husband is an R.N. and he works the night shift (7a-7p). When he earns time off, it is paid at the dayshift rate (minus 4 bucks for shift differential). This kinda chaps my hide because taking earned time off means losing money. If he worked the day shift (which is a lot easier to staff) he wouldn't lose a dime if he took earned time off. In essence, day shift folk get paid relatively more for ETO than night shift.
Does this happen everywhere, or is his hospital particularly cheap? Any suggestions on points to make to the head honcho's about making this more fair?
