NIGHTMARE JOB!! Please help!!!!

Hello-

I have recently become a CNA for a senior care center. I love my boss, love the residents, and even love the location... There's just one thing...
THE OTHER CNA'S!!!! They're out for blood. I work hard and smile, I do not ever complain.. I just want to work and maybe make a few friends along the way.. But these other women are out for blood... I've only had this job for about 2 weeks and already there are rumors about me talking badly about others!!! And that is SSSSOOOOOOOO NOT TRUE! Also one CNA was saying I wasn't doing my job to some other girls at work and they came and told me!! Are all places like this??? I'm so upset I thought we would be helping one another not ripping eachother to shreads... What the heck is going on???

Anyone??? Please give me advice... Everyday I cry when I get home b/c of these women.

Re: NIGHTMARE JOB!! Please help!!!!

hey....sorry this is happening to you. one potential good thing is that other cna's are coming up to you and informing you about what's going on. a guy i used to work with always said "if they're talking bad about me, at least they're giving someone else a break!"
i know these things may not help a whole lot right now, but my advice is to keep conducting yourself above reproach. you do your job, work hard and don't sink to the level of trash talking.....everyone will know it and when people say things about you that aren't true, they are speaking more about themselves than they are of you.
one thing you might do: just to "head things off at the pass" is to speak to your boss. if you like her and get along with her well, then just tell her those things are bothering you. not to expect her to jump in and do something immediately, but when the rumors reach her desk she will have heard from you first. and if you put it in a way that doesn't mention any names or point fingers at anyone else, then you've taken the high road and a good boss/co-worker can see that.
hope things get better soon.

Who cares what they think/ say about you. Go in, smile and give 110% for the residents, do your job and they will back off. Everyone loves complaining about the new person, how slow they are, they don't know what they're doing, etc, etc. Soon they will find someone newer than you to bother! I feel your pain!

Exactly...kill 'em with kindness. Don't let them bring you down to their level. If you feel comfortable approaching your manager with your concerns, try that.

In any event, keep your head held high!!

Keep in mind, if your new, doing a great job, and by your actions showing their sloppiness, they are going to try to tear you down anyway they can. Dont let them, keep your chin up, do your job well, and remember, karma is a wonderful thing, what they send around will come back around and bite them on their rears.

I am amazed how some people who want to work in a profession helping others are often so bent on slamming their co-workers. It is just like high school. Unfortunately, it doesn't end. You have to know that you're doing a good job and leave it there. Don't lose faith, some of your co-workers are very nice I am sure. It seems that there are often a few people on a unit who are bent on making others' lives and attitudes as lousy as theirs. I am not sure why, but I have found this to be true and have worked in hopsitals/nursing since I was 16 years old. My husband tells me that in IT, he also has these nasties too. If people are backstabbers or liars, I'd advise you to be polite to them and just do your job. Don't tell someone like this anything you wouldn't publish on a billboard. My daughter had this happen to her last summer at an NA job in a hospital. One of the long time NA's was very territorial and telling tales on her. She also told her she was the "head NA" and delegated all of these cleaning tasks, etc. to her. Once my daughter had enough and was going to ask the manager to let her do some of these cleaning tasks at other times, etc., the woman backed off. She was just trying to intimidate an easy victim. What a jerk! Keep on doing a good job. Don't lose your perspective, it isn't you. Your patients appreciate it your good work and they are the ones who count the most. Best of luck to you.

Hang in there and don't respond to it. Easier said than done, I know.
