i have just been hired as an L&D nurse and would start working on september 10. im 26 weeks pregnant, although not showing much. i didnt tell my employer i am pregnant, not that i was hiding it but i just feared it might have a bearing on their decision to hire me. they found me qualified for the job, and i dont think my pregnancy would hinder me from performing my job well. i know that eventually i have to tell my superior or im pretty sure she'll notice. can anybody advice me on how i will bring it up or any advice on this matter.

In all my years of living [56y], I have found that the best policy is to be upfront and honest--Then you don't have to remember what you said that you said--Since you're asking about whether to tell or not--it seems to me that this is bothering you some--I could be wrong, but again, it's definitely MY opinion. What do you think would happen if they were to find out about it from some other source? Are you planning on working there after you have your baby? If so, you just might want to consider telling them pronto so that you don't run the risk of them thinking that you were withholding info on purpose...

In my opinion, the only reason you "have" to tell them anything is to arrange for your maternity leave.

If they seem shocked at all, explain that you figured they knew, since you interviewed at 26wks.

Upon hire, we see employee health, one of the questions is "are you pregnant"? If you weren't asked this point blank and lied, no problem. From my best recollection, the family medical leave act only covers you if you've been employed for a year. Please look into this pronto. You'll need it to recover unless you're going straight back to work.

Your pregnancy was no business of theirs upon your hire, now it is so the manager can plan to cover for you while your out. I'm all for the upfront and honest approach, other than the grapevine. It's a give and take, you need the manager to work with you, and they need you to give them the opportunity to do so. Start the new job off professionally and speak to the manager in private.

When they find out, tell them that you were totally shocked to find out you were pregnant as well since you are a virgin Inform them that no angel even had the decency to visit you ahead of time, to give you a heads up, and you are filing a complaint straight away, that this is all very embarrassing.

Don't worry. You had no obligation to tell them during the interview. In fact, if you were ready to pop and they asked you about it they would be in violation of the EEOC rules. I would let them know as soon as you start. Just remember since you will not have been there for 1 year, they do not have to hold your position for you if you do decide to take a full maternity leave.

I would just be honest...even if you told them during the interview, it would be illegal for them not to hire you just bc you are pregnant. The same holds true now. They cannot legally take action against you because you are starting a family. So just tell them, they will probably understand!
