new job and they replaced me

I started a new job with a doctor 2 months ago. ONly nurse, working with pain patients and lots of narcotics.
I am a recovering alchoholic and although that was not an issue, I found I did not like prescribing so many narcs. The doctor often closed his door to work on computer things ( high school reunion webpage, company webpage) often making me feel like I was alone with these people with many questions. When I had questions the answers were short.

The nurse before me helped him start the practice and he trusted her with blank signed prescriptions, etc. Me, not comfortable with that and never asked for that privilege. She knew all the pts. and they loved her.

Anyway, as I was putting something into his calendar up popped his email with a note from the HR lady saying "As per ( the big boss) request I have called so-so RN for the nurse position in your office" (mine) I was spellbound, and although I am really not happy there, I never expected that.....No one ever came to ask me if I needed help, asked me if I had questions.....I couldnt believe it....So,I gave my notice before I could be escorted out and said I would stay a certain period of time. Well I rethought that and gave my 2 weeks notice afterall.
Now I cant' go back.....it's making me ill. I used my ill mother as an excuse I could not work this week and frankly find it hard to have loyalty to a place that couldnt confront me and tried to hire someone behind my back to replace me. When I call the doctor with my mother's update, I think I will tell him I cnat come back.......what does anyone think? Should I try to go back for a final week, I just don';t think I can stand it, I feel like everyone knows when my real last day is but me!!!!

I dont think you can ever go wrong with telling the truth.

classic mom quote "oh what a tangled web we weave when we try to deceive"

My 1st thought was do you think they were maybe hiring someone else in addition to you? Not to replace you?

If your not happy with the job for specific reasons, OK--tell that to your boss and give proper notice. But to call in sick with a story of moms sick--I just dont think that is a good idea, bad karma if you ask me. Plus your reputation will follow you and when you least expect it, it may come back to bite you.

Best of luck

It sounds like there was bad chemistry between the two of you from the very start. The doc would have done well to set the tone for a successful working relationship. He is the leader of his practice. That's what leaders do. The way he went about his dealings with you was sneaky and underhanded. I had an eerily familiar encounter with a doc when I was working as his administrative assistant. I found a list of faults and errors he had made as a written justification to get rid of me. I couldn't believe it. The truth was I didn't fit in with his staff he brought with him from another state. I had a feeling things were not right. You did too.

My gut tells me to have you work the last week, but I also understand not wanting to. Been there, done that.

In the end, you have to be the one to decide what is best for you.

I've had to do two tortuous weeks notice once, I had to, no choice., it sucked but I did survive. If you don't care to leave on decent terms, burn your bridge, don't go back, erase it from your memory and leave it off your resume and move on, good luck
BTW,I left on good terms and still have always kept it off my resume

Much easier to not burn your bridges. Finish up your last week, leave graciously and find yourself a job that is a better fit. In most cities and towns nursing is a small community and that burned bridge could burn you later.

Doctor Sounds Like A Real Anus To Me. Report Him To The Dea For Questionable Prescription Pad Misuse. Maybe He Will Think Twice About Treating A Nurse So Shabbily. Good Luck, Things Will Turn Out Ok

and what grounds is this report made on? the "fact" that th op heard the previous nurse had blank pads? Thats a bit vindictive and doesnt really accomplish anything positive for the op. MAYBE (big maybe) it could help the next nurse, but not likely.

I wouldn't do that, either. What if the OP (or any nurse, for that matter) had to leave a job and was smeared? I don't think that the doctor would be in trouble, anyhow, but if he did this, and let you go without trying to prevent you from getting another position, leave and that is it.
