Need teaching materials for IM VG injections.

In a pinch I showed my neighbors husband how to give her an injection as she needed it asap for a migraine. The MD office sent her home with a needle, syringe, ampule of medicine, and NO instructions. "Just give it".

I was very much on the spot and uncomfortable, but decided to do it. I decided it was better to have him give it than myself. I normally would refer them back to the office, but it was a weekend eve and she was miserable. Sometimes you have to just do the right thing and hope for the best.

It went fine, but I would like to give him some decent printed materials for the next time. Does anyone have anything I could use. The MD office told her to just "give it in your butt", but I taught him the VG site for safety reasons. I would like materials about the VG site if possible.

Thanks to anyone who is able to help.

Re: Need teaching materials for IM VG injections.

I think you should recommend to her that she file a complaint with the drs office about her lack of education in her medication administration. Hello, no instructions? There is a reason that we give medications in specific locations, a specific way (like so we don't hit nerves).

This is terrible.

(Sorry, I know this isn't teaching materials)

All of my ventral gluteal info is in my nursing texts. Could you get to the library at a local college and photocopy a few pages?
